AQUINAS 7, PACIFICA 2: Aiden Marquez had a two-run home run to lead Pacifica, the No. 2 team from the Empire League.

FOOTHILL 7, SOUTH HILLS 5: Tyler Hawkins got the win pitching two innings, allowing three hits and striking out two. Garrett Davidson earned the save, allowing three runs and striking out one in two innings.

Davidson was 1 for 3 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, Hawkins was 2 for 2 with two RBI, Jack Muller scored two runs and Brian Harbour was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBI.

Foothill hosts La Mirada Tuesday.

SOUTH 3, NORTHWOOD 1: South from Torrance knocked off Northwood, the Pacific Coast League champion, in the opener Friday at Northwood. Junior Peter Broughton went the distance for South, allowing five hits. Northwood’s only run came in the fourth inning. Colin Carlson doubled and came around to score on a squeeze bunt by Carter Liu. Casey Euper started on the mound for Northwood. Paul Grossman came on to pitch in the fourth inning.

BECKMAN 1, TEMESCAL CANYON 0 (8 innings): Beckman, the No. 2 team from the Pacific Coast League, won at home Friday in the opener. Beckman (22-6-1) won the game in the eighth inning when Zach Ireland drew a bases loaded walk-off walk with two outs. Connor Perea scored the winning run.

Ireland pitched seven innings, allowing two hits and striking out three. Rex Jarcy pitched a scoreless eighth inning to get the win and improve his record to 8-2. Jonathan Reece pitched for Temescal Canyon, allowing one hit in 7 2/3 innings.

“Just a super intense high school baseball game,” said Beckman Coach Kevin Lavalle. “We played really well, they played really well. I think there was a point where we all thought that it was going to be a marathon, extra inning affair, but I’m glad it ended the way it did. They were an excellent team.”

Beckman plays at La Habra Tuesday in the second round.

LA HABRA 2, REDLANDS VALLEY EAST 1: The Highlanders (21-8) notched a home win Friday. Jared Day pitched seven innings, striking out eight and allowing one earned run. David Arias got the win with two scoreless innings. Andrew Gandara was 2 for 3 with the game-winning RBI. Spencer Carty was 2 for 2 and scored the game-winning run. Bobby Fierro was 2 for 5 with a run scored and Bobby Brooks 1 for 3 with an RBI.

La Habra hosts Beckman Tuesday in the second round.

CORONA DEL MAR 6, BURBANK 0: The Sea Kings won their CIF playoff opener at home Friday. Nick Salmon had a home run, Dillon Lane had three RBI. Stevie Jones, Marcello Anelli and Brady Andrews combined for 15 strikeouts for the Sea Kings. CdM (19-9) plays at St. John Bosco in the second round on Tuesday.

SEGERSTROM 1, SOUTH PASADENA 0: Segerstrom, the No. 2 team from the Golden West League, captured a victory on the road Friday. The Jaguars (13-11-1) advance to the second round to face Riverside Prep Tuesday.

Senior Rodrigo Rivera Jr. pitched a complete game. He allowed four hits and walked just one. Nathan Nunez drove in the game’s only run with a safety squeeze. Nick Garcia had two hits, including a double for Segerstrom.
