Anthony DeMarco and Vincent DeMarco, two brothers on Woodbridge High School’s baseball team, have been enjoying being on the same varsity team this year.
Anthony, a senior, and Vincent, a sophomore, were thrilled with the results of Tuesday’s Pacific Coast League game. Anthony had two walks and scored the eventual game winner and Vincent came on in relief to earn the win in the fifth inning in the Warriors 2-1 victory over Irvine in eight innings at Irvine.
“I thought it was incredible, the boys came together; we had a young guy get a hit (Henry Uhrik) in a huge spot, you can’t ask for much more than that from a 15-year-old, it was pretty impressive he came up and did that for us, it was a team victory, every guy was in it, even the guys on the bench were yelling, it was a great day to be a Warrior,” said Anthony, who signed a national letter to play for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.”
The victory helped Woodbridge move into undisputed third place in the Pacific Coast League with a little more than two weeks left in the regular season.
“It’s super important, it sets the tone for the rest of the series to get ahead on the series and hopefully come back and get another win tomorrow,” Anthony said.
Anthony DeMarco was able to catch the game as his brother earned the win.
“It’s unreal, it’s the best, I have no words for it, it’s just incredible, I love every second of it,” he said. “We’re super close, he’s my best friend.”
Vincent DeMarco was able to battle his way to earn the win improving his record to 6-2.
“It was a really fun game, I had to fight through some command issues, but in the end, I had to settle in, relax myself on the mound and just start throwing strikes, and it worked out in the end,” Vincent said. “I’m happy with my performance today and happy with the team’s performance. I definitely had to work harder today that usual, but it ended up paying off.”
And, it made it extra special with his brother catching.
“It’s a dream come true, especially since he’s not going to be here next year, it’s probably the last time we will play on a field together, so it’s really cool pitching to my brother, and he’s the best catcher in the league, I can’t complain. It’s awesome having him back there,” he said.
The DeMarco brothers were one of three brother combinations in the PCL game Tuesday. Irvine’s Nathan Valencia and Adam Valencia and Sullivan Spivey and Smith Spivey also competed in the contest.
