Troy’s football team used a stellar defensive effort to defeat Segerstrom 42-0 Friday night in a non-league game at Fullerton.
“Four turnovers created {by} defense and held Segerstrom to under 150 total yards,” said Troy Coach Michael Echaves.
The Warriors (3-1) also blocked a field goal.

Troy was led by senior quarterback Mason Mays who completed 11 of 16 passes for 268 yards and five touchdowns with one interception, according to Echaves.
Running back Riley Billington rushed for 71 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown and wide receiver Andrew Green had six catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns for Troy.
Chandler Lieberman had three catches for 102 yards and three touchdowns for the Warriors.
Defensively, Jake Maturo had 14 tackles and one tackle for a loss, Noah Torosian had four tackles and an interception and Isaac King had four tackles and an interception.
It was a tough night for Segerstrom and Coach Joseph Tagaloa was not on the field coaching due to tricep surgery he had on Tuesday. He missed all of practice this week.
“Needless to say that I’m disappointed with outcome of the game,” he said. “After watching film, we didn’t play very well as a team. We had some individual efforts that were commendable. Joshua Garcia and Jullian Hernandez played well for us on defense. On offense, we struggled most of the night to execute.”
Segerstrom (2-3) has a bye this week before opening league play on Friday, Oct. 2 at home against Irvine.
“This wasn’t typical Jaguar football game,” Tagaloa said. “We will make the necessary adjustments during the bye week to be ready to host Irvine in our league opener in two weeks.”
Troy wraps up non-league play Friday at El Dorado before opening Delta League action against Laguna Beach on Thursday, Oct. 1 at Fullerton.
