Crean Lutheran’s football team wrapped up non-league play Friday night defeating Oakdale 38-21 in Oakdale.
The Saints, who snapped a two-game losing streak, ended non-league play 3-2. Crean Lutheran has a bye this week before opening play in the Bravo League Friday Oct. 2 at Tustin.
“It was a great team bonding trip and the team capped it off with a victory over a tenacious Oakdale Mustang team in Oakdale on Friday night,” said Coach Rick Curtis.

Crean Lutheran had its best offensive game of the season, gaining 539 yards (276 passing, 263 rushing), according to Curtis.
Quarterback Caden Jones led the way, completing 18 of 25 passes for 276 yards and three touchdown passes. He also rushed for 126 yards on eight carries and one touchdown.
“We were pleased with our rushing attack as well as freshman running back, Eden Gamiz (fillling in for Caleb Bey), broke the 100 yard mark with 117 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown,” Curtis said.
“Once again, Braylen Ross led the receiving corps, hauling in 10 passes for 131 yards, two touchdowns, and a two-point conversion.”
Damari Hall had five receptions for 108 yards, while Nate Collins hauled in three passes for 37 yards and a touchdown reception for the Saints.
“The offensive line of Ace Herman, Connor Malone, Demetrius Panapa, Adonijah Moenoa, and Ezra Jordan had a great game in protecting Jones in the pocket and in opening up holes for the rushing attack,” Curtis said.
“It took time for the defense to adjust to the hurry up Wing-T attack that Oakdale is famous for but, they settled down in the third and fourth quarter to turn back the Mustangs in key situations. Evan Mack had 12 tackles and an interception and Ahmeer Williamson also was in on 12 tackles throughout the contest. Nasir Walker, Yahushua Foster, Luke Smith led the defensive line in the battle of the trenches. Ethan Haugsland made several key plays from his linebacker position in his best game of the season.”
The Saints will use the bye week to regroup.
“We are in a much needed bye week after a rigorous pre-league schedule as we look forward to getting several key players back from injury who were held out of the Oakdale game,” Curtis said. “The Bravo league looks to be a gauntlet with four teams currently undefeated in pre-league play and all highly rated in the state of California.”
