Inside Fashion Island’s New Cocktail Masterclass

Fashion Island’s In the Mix series invites guests to trade the standard happy hour for an upscale guided cocktail masterclass inspired by the flavours of the season. The debut event took place Thursday, April 23, on the lawn at the open-air shopping destination’s ocean-view Seitz Park, located near RH. (The next session is set for June 18 from 4 to 6 p.m.)

For its first session, In the Mix spotlighted The Botanist Gin, a dry gin from Bruichladdich Distillery on Scotland’s Isle of Islay, crafted with 22 hand-foraged botanicals.

With tickets priced at $25, attendees learned how to shake, stir and sample seasonal cocktails that included The Botanist Gin as the base spirit. The menu offered a cucumber gimlet with lime juice, simple syrup and cucumber, along with the Bee’s Knees, a Prohibition-era cocktail made with fresh lemon juice, honey, and gin. Participants were also invited to put a spin on a classic mojito with a gin-based iteration made with lime juice, simple syrup, mint, and ginger beer.

The class was catered by Great Maple, known for its elevated take on American comfort food with bites like portobello-mushroom fries, chicken-and-doughnut skewers, field-green salad, and beignets. Bouquet-making was also available as an optional activity.
