Posted on April 20th, 2022
Boys & Girls Club of Capistrano Valley’s (BGCCV) Aliso Viejo Branch is the first recipient in Orange County of a Cox Charities ‘Impact Grant’, a new program launched this year. The $40,000 award will help the BGCCV Aliso Viejo Branch grow its Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) IMPACT program, which aims to increase access to unique STEAM opportunities for area K-12 students which allow them to expand their skills to succeed in education, the workforce and in life.
The new Cox Charities Impact Grant program targets non-profit organizations in Cox service areas that are focused on creating meaningful impact for K-12 students through STEM-based activities.
“To say we were thrilled when we found out we were selected for the Cox Charities Impact Grant award is a huge understatement,” said James Littlejohn executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Capistrano Valley. “This opportunity will allow us to significantly expand the breadth of enriching STEAM opportunities available to our Aliso Viejo members, thereby keeping them on track to achieving on-time grade progression and their future academic and career goals.”
“We are committed to digital equity in our communities,” says Chanelle Hawken, vice president of public and government affairs for Cox Communications in California. “STEAM programs like this one by our community partners at the Boys & Girls Club of Capistrano Valley provide the opportunity to make learning about science and technology fun and engaging, with the intention to spark interest in academic pursuit among youth to see themselves in a future career in STEAM industries. This will continue the innovation required to pave the future in our local economy.”
The Cox Charities Impact Grant was launched this year to support local K-12 educational programs.
