The Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center, Department of Radiation Oncology was awarded full accreditation by the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) APEx – Accreditation Program for Excellence® for a three-year term starting January 25, 2023.
This determination is based on a review of the facility’s policies, procedures, and processes as they demonstrate compliance with the APEx Standards through an internal Self-Assessment and on-site facility visit.
“Our Radiation Oncology Team worked hard to make sure this review went smoothly. This full accreditation reflects the excellent, cutting-edge treatment and outstanding patient care our Radiation Oncology Team provides to our Veterans. I am very proud of them and the work they do!” said Suzanne Palmer, M.D., Chief of Imaging Health Care Group at VA Long Beach Healthcare System.
“VA Long Beach is one of only 3 Veterans Health Administration (VHA)-operated Radiation Oncology sites west of the Rockies, along with Puget Sound Healthcare System, and the Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. Nationwide, there are a total of 41 VHA-operated Radiation Oncology sites, all aiming for the same quality standards as this accreditation represents. We are very proud to be amongst our colleagues to provide excellent cancer care for our Veteran patients in need.” said Dr. Steve P. Lee, Chief of Radiation Oncology at VA Long Beach Healthcare System.
