LBPD investigating traffic fatality at 2nd Street and Marina Drive

On Dec. 4, 2022, at approximately 12:57 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 2nd Street and Marina Drive regarding an injury traffic collision that resulted in the death of an adult male.

Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian lying in the eastbound lanes of 2nd Street suffering from critical injuries resulting from a traffic collision. The Long Beach Fire Department responded and determined the pedestrian to be deceased at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown vehicle was traveling eastbound on 2nd Street; as the vehicle crossed the bridge from Appian Way, it struck the pedestrian who was crossing 2nd Street walking northbound outside of a marked crosswalk. The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.

The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
