CHP officer injured in crash in Garden Grove

On Sunday, December 4, 2022, at approximately 8:44 p.m., a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer was involved in a traffic crash, when the officer’s 2018 Dodge patrol vehicle was struck while on the right shoulder of State Route 22 westbound, west of Euclid Street.

The CHP officer was helping a motorist on the right shoulder when a Chevy SUV veered off the road and crashed into the CHP vehicle. The CHP officer, a six-year veteran of the CHP, was transported to UCI Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries sustained in the crash. Two juveniles, a male and female, who were passengers in the Chevrolet SUV, were uninjured in the crash and subsequently released to a family member following the incident.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, however impairment is suspected as a factor in this crash. The female driver of the Chevrolet SUV, Krystal Amy Ramos (D.O.B. 07/13/1986), was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence (D.U.I.). She was transported to Garden Grove Hospital for medical clearance and subsequently booked into Orange County Jail for the following charges:

  • 23153(a) V.C. – Felony D.U.I.
  • 273a(a) P.C. – Child Endangerment.
