Rep. Michelle Steel announced raising over $1 million in the FEC’s second fundraising quarter, bringing her total raised for the cycle to over $5 million and leaving her with a $2.1 million war chest heading into the final four months of the election. Steel once again out-raised her Democrat opponent, who has been unable to match Steel’s impressive fundraising. In addition to outperforming Chen in terms of total dollars raised, Rep. Steel’s small-dollar grassroots program out-raised her opponent by over $40,000.
This announcement comes off the heels of a dominant performance in California’s June 7th primary election in which Rep. Steel defeated Democrat Jay Chen by over 5%, despite there being another Republican in the race who captured nearly 9% of the vote. With Republicans earning 57% of the total vote, pundits have taken notice as both Cook Political Report and Sabato’s Crystal Ball recently moved Rep. Steel’s race from Toss-up to Lean Republican.
“Congresswoman Steel is a tough and proven campaigner who has done a tremendous job in her first term of standing up to the Washington establishment to deliver for her constituents and voters have taken notice,” said Sam Oh, Steel’s General Consultant. “Steel has deep roots in this community and her work and track record has solidified herself as the clear frontrunner heading into November.”
