Orange County squad captures division title at national lacrosse championships

The Orange County team won its division championship Sunday at the USA Lacrosse National Tournament in Bel Air, Md.

The Orange Couny team won its first game against Georgia 10-9. The team trailed 9-4 with six minutes to play before going on a 6-0 run, scoring the last two goals in the final minute.

Then the squad defeated Connecticut 14-8 and a team from Maryland 17-11 to finish 3-0 in its pool. 

On Sunday, the Orange County squad defeated a team from Massachusetts/Rhode Island 8-4 to win the division championship.  The match was tied 3-3 at the half. Jenna Cardone from Foothill was outstanding in goal making many saves to keep the game close.  She wound up with 15 saves. Zoey Stephens from Foothill was named to the all-tournament team.

Portola standout Jadyn Zdanavage contributed three goals in the tournament.

Coaches were Olivia Smart from Edison and Megan Armes from St Margaret’s.
