Woodbridge High School’s softball team finished the Alan Dugard Classic strong with two shutout victories Saturday at Bill Barber Park.

The Warriors defeated Peninsula 3-0 in the first game then capped the day with a 6-0 victory over Godinez with former coach Alan Dugard, who has the tournament named in his honor, in attendance.

Woodbridge (11-9 overall) was led by Breanna Izzo. Izzo pitched six scoreless innings allowing two hits and striking out four in the opener. Izzo pitched all seven innings against Godinez, allowing four hits and striking out four.

The Warriors were determined to bounce back from a 7-3 loss to Newport Harbor Friday night in the tournament and played well in both Saturday games to capture the consolation trophy in the silver division at the tournament.

“Overall, I thought it was good, they played hard, it was a rough loss last night so I think they came in with a fresh perspective and a new outlook,” said Woodbridge Coach Kim Wojciechowski after the first game.

“They took our advice and kept a short memory. That was a hard one to lose. They really wanted to win that game.”
