A woman was arrested after allegedly attempting to murder an elderly family member.

On Thursday, September 8, 2022, at about 1:00 pm, the Seal Beach Police Department received a call of an assault with a deadly weapon which occurred in a residence located in the 100-block of 5th Street.

Seal Beach Police officers quickly arrived on scene and contacted the elderly, male victim outside of the residence. The victim told officers he was involved in an argument with a female, adult family member inside of the house. During the argument, the female allegedly used a knife to attempt to stab the victim while threatening to kill him.

The victim was able to run out of the house without sustaining injuries.

The suspect then barricaded herself inside a bedroom and refused to surrender to officers. Crisis negotiators from the Seal Beach and Fountain Valley Police Departments began communicating with the suspect. However, after an hour of negotiations, the female refused to surrender.

Officers entered the bedroom and took the female into custody. She was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries related to the use of oleoresin capsicum (pepper) spray. No officers or other family members were injured.
