The winner of a $27 million SuperLotto Plus jackpot from a ticket sold in Ventura County over the summer has come forward and claimed his prize! Silvestre Zarate bought the jackpot-winning ticket for the July 13th draw at Liquor Cellar on West Channel Island Boulevard, and it wound up matching all six numbers.

Zarate says he went in to buy a cold beverage and also decided to buy a Lottery ticket to try his luck for the multimillion-dollar jackpot that night. He only plays occasionally and didn’t expect to win, so he didn’t even think about the draw that night once he got home. The next day, when he heard someone won the jackpot, he checked his ticket.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! I almost fainted,” Zarate told the California Lottery in Spanish, translated here for media use. “I’m so thankful for this prize. I’m only going to use some of the money for the necessary things in my life, and I’m giving the rest to my daughter for her education, college, and her future.”

Zarate chose the lump sum cash option and will receive $15.2 million before federal tax withholding.

“We especially love celebrating SuperLotto Plus winners,” said Carolyn Becker, California Lottery spokesperson. “Unlike other popular draw games, Powerball® and Mega Millions®, where the jackpots are always an estimate, our California-only SuperLotto jackpot is guaranteed for tickets that match every single number.”

SuperLotto Plus draws happen twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The jackpot for the 24th’s draw is $27 million once again.
