Wild game, big rushing efforts, thrilling comeback and key road wins highlight week three

It was another exciting week of high school football which wrapped up for most teams on Friday.

….. Marina High School’s football team, coached by Charlie TeGantvoort, held on for a wild 42-32 non-league victory over Redlands Thursday night. The Vikings, 2-2 overall, play Huntington Beach Thursday night.

….. Foothill running back Aaron Mitchell had the best game of his career, rushing for five touchdowns and leading the Knights to a 44-18 victory over Troy at Tustin.

….. El Modena’s football team, which has played a tough non-league schedule, defeated Segerstrom 35-9 Friday night for its first win of the season. Segerstrom came into the game undefeated.

….. Trabuco Hills defense stepped up to slow down Irvine’s high flying offense with a 16-8 victory over the Vaqueros Friday night. Trabuco Hills plays Tustin Friday at Trabuco Hills while Irvine hosts Laguna Hills Thursday at Irvine Stadium.

….. Northwood and University football teams each recorded road non-league victories. University hosts Savanna Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and will be trying to move over .500 for the first time. Northwood plays at Crean Lutheran Friday at 5:30 p.m.

…. Calvary Chapel’s football team used a late drive to win a non-league road game over Carpinteria Friday. The Eagles open Orange Coast League play Friday at Costa Mesa.
