Santa Ana Mayor Vicente Sarmiento won a commanding double digit lead (over 12 %) in the June 7th Primary for Orange County Supervisor District 2. Sarmiento, who is endorsed by the Orange County Democratic Party, the Orange County Federation of Labor, and numerous other professional, labor and community organizations, advances to the November General election where he will face a run off. Sarmiento, earned 21,900 votes, over 35% of the ballots cast in the election.
“I am humbled by the support we received across the district,” said Sarmiento. “Voters across the district, from Anaheim, Orange, Garden Grove, Tustin, and Santa Ana came out to support new leadership to reduce homelessness, increase public safety, and improve public health care. I want to thank my primary opponents for running, and look forward to a general election that focuses on the issues and challenges we face. I am proud of my record of delivering results for Orange County families, and look forward to sharing my priorities with voters through November.
Sarmiento was elected as Santa Ana’s only second Latino mayor and would also be the first Santa Ana official to serve on the Orange County Board of Supervisors in 74 years.. If elected to the Board of Supervisors newly-drawn Latino-majority district, Sarmiento would only be the third Latino supervisor in county history.
