Utility Tax Rebate for Businesses
The Irvine City Council has approved a one-time rebate of the Utility Users Tax that was collected from businesses in Fiscal Year 2021-22. Businesses may be eligible to receive a rebate either by check or by electronic funds transfer directly into their bank account.
The Utility Users Tax (UUT) is a 1.5% tax added to all business electricity, gas, and phone bills. This tax is not added to residents’ bills. This rebate is only for the City tax paid, not the entire bill. Your utility bill may refer to this as a City Tax, UUT, or something similar. Click here to see examples of where you can find the UUT on your utility bill.
In order to qualify for the rebate, businesses will need to provide:
- Basic information about the business.
- Your Irvine Business License number (rebate will only apply to taxes paid by businesses that held a valid business license from the period of July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022).
- Copies of all qualifying utility bills.
- Banking information for those opting to receive rebates electronically.
