ANAHEIM, Calif. (Dec. 9, 2023) — Kids living near Peter Marshall Park today received the gift of play for years and generations to come with the building of two playgrounds.

Nearly 200 volunteers from the community, the Anaheim Ducks and Boys & Girls Club of Greater Anaheim-Cypress spent the day assembling play equipment, moving mulch and pouring concrete to put the finishing touches on the playgrounds. The rest of the park also saw fresh landscaping, a new coat of paint on the park sign and the planting of 15 trees.

The two playgrounds, one for kids ages 2 to 5 and another for ages 5 to 12, each feature age-appropriate play gear and span a combined 9,450 square feet.

Kids visiting the park will find hours of fun among the 50 brightly colored orange and teal features that include slides, climbing ropes, bridges, monkey bars, swings, spinners, musical sensory stations, a zip line and a rock climbing wall.

The playgrounds, which will open for kids in the coming days after safety checks, bring new life to the park at the corner of Magnolia Street and Greenleaf Avenue in west Anaheim. The previous playgrounds were more than 20 years old and in need of repair.

For residents living nearby, the park is a place to enjoy a picnic, walk their dogs or play a game of catch.

The new Peter Marshall playgrounds are the result of a fun-filled design day on Sept. 28.

More than 100 children and parents from the neighborhood and Boys & Girls Club of Greater Anaheim-Cypress joined with KABOOM! and Anaheim Ducks future Ducks prospects players, the Ducks Street Team and mascot Wild Wing to come up with features and designs.

Playground planning by the city of Anaheim followed based on what kids said they wanted to see in their new playspace. The designs build in accessibility so as many kids as possible can enjoy the playgrounds, whatever their level of ability.

For the Anaheim Ducks, the playground is a way to give back to the hockey team’s hometown by promoting play and the health and wellness of kids and families in the community. The Anaheim Ducks are celebrating their 30th anniversary during the 2023-2024 National Hockey League season.

This is the 16th KABOOM! playground in Anaheim and the second sponsored by the Anaheim Ducks.
