In California, a juvenile caught with alcohol and involved in an incident like throwing a glass bottle at a bystander could face several penalties:
- Minor in Possession of Alcohol: This is a misdemeanor offense that can result in a fine of $250 and 24-32 hours of community service. Additionally, the juvenile’s driver’s license can be suspended for one year12.
- Assault or Battery: Throwing a glass bottle at someone could be considered assault or battery, leading to more severe penalties such as probation, mandatory counseling, or even detention in a juvenile facility3.
- Restitution: The juvenile may be required to pay for any damages or medical expenses incurred by the bystander3.
The exact penalties can vary based on the specifics of the case and the juvenile’s prior record. Legal guidance is often recommended in such situations to navigate the complexities of the juvenile justice system.
