Yesterday afternoon, a patrol officer threw a wrench into the plans of two organized retail theft suspects, according to the Irvine Police Department.

After spotting the suspects’ vehicle, which was not adequately decorated with license plates, the officer initiated a traffic stop.

When the officer walked up to the car, she observed oodles of new tools in packaging in the back of the vehicle. By any measure, the situation was suspicious.

The police officers dug into their toolboxes and started investigating what they had been up to.

Officers built a case and determined the pair were responsible for stealing over $2,000 in items from Home Depot stores in two nearby cities.

The police officers demonstrated “how doers get more done.”

Karen Juliana Hurtado Lopez, 23, of Los Angeles, was charged with having fraudulent identification, possessing stolen property, and conspiracy. Cristian David Moreno, 22, of Los Angeles, was arrested for conspiracy and possessing stolen property. Moreno was wanted on a $25K warrant for organized theft.

The two were given free lodging at the Orange County Jail.
