On Sept. 27, 2022, at approximately 7:10 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of West 7th Street and Chestnut Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and an electric scooter, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon officers’ arrival, good Samaritans were already rendering aid to the driver of the electric scooter. The Long Beach Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the driver of the electric scooter to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the electric scooter was riding westbound on West 7th Street and ran a red light at the intersection of Chestnut Avenue. While traveling through the intersection, the electric scooter collided with a 2018 Chrysler 300, which was traveling northbound on Chestnut Avenue. The Chrysler was driven by a 59-year-old female resident of Long Beach. The driver of the Chrysler remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Alcohol, drugs, and distracted driving were not believed to be a factor in the collision for the driver of the Chrysler.

The driver of the electric scooter is only being identified as an adult male, pending next of kin notification by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.
