AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE’S “SYLVIA”
Take a trip to Ancient Greece where gods and fantastical creatures roam and romance flourishes. The huntress Sylvia sparks an unexpected connection with the shepherd Aminta and embarks on a tumultuous love story for the ages. This ballet was first performed in Paris more than 150 years ago but remains relevant with the skilled efforts of choreographers that have continued to reimagine it. EMMET COHEN PRESENTS: MILES AND COLTRANE AT 100
This year marks the centennial of jazz greats John Coltrane and Miles Davis. Pianist Emmet Cohen will perform their greatest hits with a quintet in celebration and dedication. Cohen will not only honor the greats but will perform their pieces by putting his own spin on the historic jazz songs. DANISH STRING QUARTET WITH DANISH NATIONAL GIRLS’ CHOIR
Two of Denmark’s most beloved and celebrated ensembles will join together to perform a new collection of music developed for them by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer David Lang, who was commissioned by many, including the Philharmonic Society of Orange County. The Danish National Girls’ Choir boasts 50 singers ranging in age from 16 through 22. Expect to hear an incredible evening of music as they appear with the talented, Grammy-nominated Danish String Quartet. IMAGINOLOGY
Science, technology, engineering, arts, and math come together in this spectacular two-day event built for kids and their families to learn and play. From preschool to high school, kids of every age are welcome to participate in the events, including exhibitions, competitions, demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and more. Each day will have scheduled performances, chess tournaments, and 4-H livestock competitions. Students can enter to compete in various competitions and participate in the daily events. “EAT ME”
Food is at the center of this unique play developed by Talene Monahon, one of The New York Times’ rising theater stars of 2023. The world premiere of “Eat Me” made its mark on the South Coast Repertory stage last year, and it returns with its provocative storytelling. The story serves as commentary on the social media-driven world of foodies and food obsessed content creators. Some rate various cuisines and others drum up their own inventive concoctions, all thriving off of their own food-related niches. “THE MESSENGER”
Georgia Gabor is a Hungarian Holocaust survivor living in Pasadena, Calif., struggling daily with survival, prejudice, and a fight against hatred. Four women living in her neighborhood across completely different generations from 1969, 1993, and 2020 will be impacted by her story. The play features a provocative and emotional narrative that encourages viewers to think about injustice throughout history into the present as it follows each of these four women.
