Three current members of the House of Representatives announced their support for businessman and former Congressman Harley Rouda to retake his seat. Congressman and former California Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi, Congressman and Vice Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Dean Phillips, and Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill endorsed frontrunner Rouda as he continues to consolidate support for his bid.

Congressman and former California Lieutenant Governor and Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi released the following statement:

“Harley Rouda has been a powerful voice for California, inside Congress and out. He knows our state’s challenges, and how to fix them: from tackling the environmental crisis, to growing our economy. His business acumen, leadership, and dedication will serve Orange County well when he returns to Congress.”

Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill released the following statement:

“Washington has enough partisan show horses – we need more leaders who will roll up their sleeves and deliver. I’ve seen Harley in action, and I know that no one will work harder for the people of Orange County. I’m proud to endorse him in his run for Congress.”

Congressman and DPCC Vice Chair Dean Phillips released the following statement:

“Harley Rouda is a proven leader in the business community and in Congress. In these divided times, we need voices in Congress who will work across the aisle to deliver. I look forward to serving with him again.”

Last week, the Rouda campaign released their campaign launch video, “Back to Business.” The video contrasts the dysfunction in Congress under Republican control with the desire of Orange County residents to elect leaders who will put country before party and get back to solving the very real challenges our country faces.

CA-47 contains the communities of Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, and Seal Beach. Harley represented more than 70% of these voters during his term in Congress from 2019-2021, following his defeat of Putin’s favorite congressman, Dana Rohrabacher, in a far more Republican leaning district. Congresswoman Katie Porter won the district by only 3 points in 2022.
