The SAPD arrested a man suspected of a fatal stabbing and an assault at a McDonald’s parking lot

On Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 3:04 p.m., the police received a report of a stabbing in the McDonald’s parking lot located at 3810 S. Bristol Street, according to the SAPD.

Officers, along with Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), responded to the scene and located an unresponsive 43-year-old man suffering from a stab wound to his upper torso.

The OCFA paramedica treated the victim and transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

While investigating the stabbing, officers learned that a woman had also been assaulted by a man in the same shopping center as the McDonald’s.

The woman reported being punched multiple times in an unprovoked attack by the unknown suspect. Officers detained the assault suspect near the crime scene.

The investigation revealed that the suspect involved in the assault also approached and stabbed the homicide victim. The two victims were unrelated.

The suspect was identified as Justin Anthony Carlin (43) of Santa Ana. Carlin was arrested and booked at the Santa Ana Jail for Penal Code § 187(a) – Murder, as well as additional charges related to the separate assault.
