On Tuesday, a police officer was patrolling a shopping center parking lot when the license plate reader of his unit alerted him of a stolen rental van parked in the lot, according to the Irvine Police Department.

As the officer waited for additional officers to arrive, the driver exited the rental van and was detained.

The suspect told a long story about how he “borrowed” the rental van from a “friend” and intended to return it, but it was quickly discovered the van was reported stolen on Saturday, October 19.

During the search of the suspect, he was found in possession of a large quantity of what appeared to be methamphetamine.

David Totolhuamenel, 27, was arrested and booked at Orange County Jail for possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a controlled substance for sale.

He admitted to the police, during his arrest, that he “just got out of jail last week.” Looks like he is going to be doing more time behind bars. Some people just never learn.

Irvine Cops is filmed on location with the men and women of law enforcement. All suspects are innocent until provide guilty in a court of law!
