The Fountain Valley Police issued 17 citations during their Dec. 13 DUI Checkpoint

On 12/13, the Fountain Valley Police Department, with the assistance of Westminster Police Department motor officers, conducted a DUI/CDL Checkpoint to spread awareness of the dangers of impaired driving.

Of the 913 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint, 752 drivers were contacted, and 17 drivers were cited for license violations. 5 drivers were evaluated for DUI, but ultimately did not meet the criteria for an arrest.

A DUI in California can cost between $8,000 and $25,000, but the total cost can vary widely:

  • Fines: A first-time DUI can result in a fine of $390 to $1,000
  • Court costs: Court costs can range from $1,000 to $2,000
  • DMV fees: A first-time DUI can result in a DMV fee of $125
  • Attorney fees: Attorney fees can range from $2,500 to $7,500

Other costs include:

  • DUI school fees
  • Ignition interlock device (IID) installation and maintenance
  • Increased vehicle insurance rates
  • Towing and impound fees
  • License reinstatement fees

Other factors that can increase the cost of a DUI include: Lost earnings, Transportation costs, The distance of the tow, and the length of the impound.
