The Costa Mesa police arrested a burglary suspect who was targeting expensive bikes

On Sunday night, police officers observed a man riding a bicycle while holding onto another high-end mountain bike, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.

The police officers ordered the man to stop but he fled.

A short distance later, they apprehended and arrested the man, who was also in possession of bolt cutters and other burglary tools.

The police could not identify the owner of the bike. In fact, in October, they took about a dozen stolen bicycle reports.

Bike registration is no longer a requirement in Costa Mesa, but the police strongly encourage residents to register their bikes through Project 529 to assist law enforcement in returning lost or stolen bicycles to the rightful owners.

What is Project 529? It’s a website for bike registration that we use as well as other law enforcement agencies. Police officers use the database to return registered lost or stolen bikes.
