The Anaheim Police are trying to identify two women who have been stealing packages

The Anaheim Police Department is attempting to identify two females, who have been caught on surveillance camera footage stealing packages off porches in and around the area of South Street and East Street.

The same females have been seen on four separate occasions in this area committing these thefts. In all four cases the suspects walk up to the residence, steal the packages, and then leave on foot, it is unknown if a vehicle is involved at this time.

The first suspect is described as a plus size white female, with dark blond or brown curly hair, glasses, typically wearing an oversized t-shirt, leggings, and slip on walking shoes.

The second suspect is described as a Hispanic or white female, with dark curly hair, wearing a patterned blouse, blue jeans, and running shoes.

Here are the potential penalties the suspects could face under California law if charged and convicted for stealing packages:

  • Petty theft (Penal Code § 484/488)
    • Applies if the value of stolen items is $950 or less
    • Misdemeanor offense
    • Penalty: up to 6 months in county jail and/or a fine up to $1,000
  • Grand theft (Penal Code § 487)
    • Applies if the value of stolen items exceeds $950
    • Can be charged as a misdemeanor or felony
    • Felony penalty: up to 3 years in county jail
  • Mail theft (Penal Code § 530.5(e) or federal 18 U.S.C. § 1708)
    • Applies if packages include mail or were delivered by USPS
    • May trigger federal charges
    • Penalty: up to 5 years in federal prison
  • Burglary (Penal Code § 459)
    • Applies if suspects entered a porch or enclosed area with intent to steal
    • First-degree burglary (residential) is a felony
    • Penalty: 2 to 6 years in state prison
  • Organized retail theft (Penal Code § 490.4)
    • Applies if thefts are coordinated or repeated
    • Felony offense
    • Penalty: up to 3 years in county jail
  • Probation and restitution
    • Court may order probation instead of jail time
