Tesoro, Woodbridge, University and Santa Margarita capture Wednesday victories

TESORO 9, CAPISTRANO VALLEY 8 (( 8 innings): The Titans (19-8, 9-2) clinched the South Coast League championship with the victory. Jackson Freeman was 2 for 4 with with two home runs and four RBI, Carter Jorrisen was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBI and Tanner Tobias was 2 for 4 with an RBI to lead Tesoro. The teams wrap up their series Friday at Tesoro.

WOODBRIDGE 4, NORTHWOOD 0: Pacific Coast League champion Woodbridge (22-5, 18-2) notched its eight shutout of the year Wednesday in the game at Northwood. Matt Kuromoto went the distance, allowing six hits and striking out four to improve his record to 8-2 and lowering his ERA to 1.03. Anthony DeMarco was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored, Nolan Stottlemyer was 1 for 2 with a run scored and Brandon Abernathy went 1 for 4 with a stolen base. Woodbridge and Northwood, which has clinched second place, play again Thursday night at 6 p.m. at Ryan Lemmon Stadium. Woodbridge seniors will be honored at 5:30 p.m.

UNIVERSITY 8, SAGE HILL 4 (8 innings): The Trojans kept their hopes alive for a CIF Dvision 6 at-large berth with a victory at Sage Hill Wednesday. Brennan Collins pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs. Logan Rome then came on to close out the game and notch the win. He did not allow an earned run in three innings. Cooper Berger had a home run in the first inning for University.

It was the third straight must-win for University, which defeated Northwood 3-1 on Tuesday.

University (13-13-1, 8-11-1) needs another win Thursday vs. Sage Hill in the regular season finale to stay alive in the playoffs. It’s also senior day at University with festivities starting at 3 p.m. before the 3:30 p.m. game. CIF playoff pairings will be announced Monday morning. It’s not know how many, if any at-large berths will be available in Division 6. Teams need to have an overall record of at least .500 to petition as an at-large team.

SANTA MARGARITA 9, ST. JOHN BOSCO 4: The Eagles, who already clinched the Trinity League title, won their second in a row over St. John Bosco on Wednesday. Sammy Cova pitched 5 1/3 innings, striking out seven. Logan DeGroot was 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBI, Drew Rutter was 2 for 2 with a home run, Charlie Lapp was 1 for 2 with an RBI, Bryce Humphry was 1 for 3 with two RBI and Luke Lavin was 1 for 3 with two RBI to lead the Eagles (21-6, 13-1).

The teams wrap up their league series Thursday at St. John Bosco.

GLENDALE 3, ESTANCIA 2: The Eagles (20-6) wrapped up their regular season with a loss in a non-league game. Freshman Lincoln Silva (2-1) took the loss. He allowed three earned runs in three innings. Andrew Mits came on to pitch in the fourth inning and struck out five, allowing three hits and no runs.

John Uchytil was 1 for 2 with an RBI, Riley Witte was 1 for 3 and Sawyer Atkinson was 1 for 2 to lead Estancia.
