Councilwoman and Criminal Prosecutor Suzie Price, candidate for Long Beach Mayor, released a new TV advertisement today in response to her opponent Rex Richardson stating to voters that “I am not a lobbyist,” when in fact, Rex Richardson is a registered lobbyist and has been for years. Before that, he worked for predatory lender Renovate America which made money off home liens targeting low-income residents and which was investigated by the FBI for defrauding homeowners in California.

The ad’s release comes on the heels of the Long Beach Post exposing Richardson’s relationship with disgraced former boss of the LA Federation of Labor, Ron Herrera, who to date has contributed over $500,000 on behalf of Richardson’s Mayoral campaign while Herrera’s daughter serves as Richardon’s chief of staff.

On October 12, while defending his relationship with Herrera on Facebook, Richardson stated that “I am not a lobbyist” in an attempt to deflect from his employment status and record of giving corporations and special interests preferential treatment while serving on the Long Beach City council.

In the advertisement titled “Lobbyist Rex,” Richardson’s lobbyist registration statement and primary-source documents and news articles are highlighted to inform voters about the truth about Richardson’s record, votes, and career history.

Script:

“Meet Rex Richardson, corporate lobbyist.”

“Rex worked for a predatory lender that defrauded California homeowners.”

“Rex voted to delay clean air rules, hurting us and helping the polluters funding his campaign”
