On May 3, 2022, at approximately 6:21 p.m., officers responded to the area of East Willow Street and Coyote Creek regarding an injury traffic collision involving two vehicles, which resulted in the death of a male.

Upon arrival, officers located a 2017 Suburu Outback in the eastbound lanes of Willow Street and an overturned 1995 GMC Yukon in the flood control channel below.

The Orange County Fire Authority responded to the scene and transported both drivers to local hospitals for their injuries. The driver of the GMC Yukon later succumbed to their injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed both vehicles were traveling eastbound on Willow Street at a high rate of speed when the Suburu Outback struck the GMC Yukon from behind, causing the Yukon to leave the roadway and land upside down in the flood control channel below the roadway.

The driver of the GMC Yukon was identified as a 53-year-old male resident of Compton. His identity is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. At this time, speed and impaired driving are believed to be factors in the collision.

The driver of the Suburu was identified as Bryan Grayley, a 66-year-old resident of Long Beach. He was taken into custody for felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter and is being held on $100,000.00 bail.
