ANAHEIM, Calif. (morning Aug. 20, 2023) — Here is your storm Hilary update for Sunday morning:
Storm summary
As of early Sunday, storm Hilary is midway along Baja moving north.
The storm center is expected to reach San Diego sometime after noon, potentially around 3 p.m.
At the moment, the storm is now a category 1 hurricane, the lowest, but still serious, rating.
It is expected to enter California as a tropical storm as it breaks down moving north.
The center of the storm is still seen moving northeast toward the deserts and eventually Nevada, but with a wide path that will bring wind and rain in either direction.
Anaheim
Anaheim saw light rain overnight that continues early Sunday with mild winds.
East Anaheim, which is likely to see the most rain, is seeing light, steady early morning rain.
Steady rain but overall moderate conditions are seen through the morning to about midday.
Time to watch: From about 1-5 p.m., the forecast calls for strong rain and wind at about 20 mph, with stronger gusts.
We are likely to see rain, heavy at times, throughout the day.
While still a significant storm, the forecast remains moderated from the most severe projections 24 to 36 hours ago with about 2 inches of rain projected in Anaheim throughout the day.
The most severe impacts are still forecast for the mountains and deserts to the east of Anaheim.
Everyone still needs to take precautions and stay alert to conditions.
As of now, afternoon is seen as the heaviest period for our city.
For Monday, we are likely to see rain and wind overnight then significant clearing Monday morning.
Rain is still likely early Monday but significantly lessened than Sunday.

Monday waste collection, street sweeping
Waste collection will take place as scheduled Monday.
Set out bins later Sunday and place bins a foot or more from the curb to allow stormwater to flow and to prevent water buildup around your home.
Monday street sweeping is likely with a clearing forecast.
There will be no citations on Monday.
