BUENA PARK, Calif. – On June 25, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m., police officers were dispatched to an injury traffic collision at the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue. Six vehicles were involved in a traffic collision, which resulted in a rollover and left multiple victims trapped in their vehicles.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2023 Tesla Model Y was traveling west on Orangethorpe Avenue in the eastbound lanes (wrong way) at a high rate of speed. The Tesla first struck a vehicle pulling out of Orangethorpe Avenue driveway of a business located at 6771 Beach Boulevard. The Tesla then continued west on Orangethorpe Avenue, through a red light at Beach Boulevard and collided with three vehicles in front of 7740 Orangethorpe Avenue. The Tesla subsequently rolled over and collided with another vehicle in the roadway.

Three victims were transported to local hospitals in serious but non-life threatening conditions. The Buena Park Police Department Serious Collision Investigation Detail (SCID) was called in to investigate the collision. Orangethorpe Avenue remained closed for four hours so that investigators could examine and process the scene.

Traffic Investigators are still actively working this collision to determine the facts leading up to the collision.

The Tesla driver is claiming the car malfunctioned before the crash, according to the Buena Park Police Department.
