Academy of St Martin in the Fields celebrates the centenary of founder Sir Neville Marriner with Soka Performing Arts Center and Philharmonic Society of Orange County proudly presenting Joshua Bell and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 8PM.

Violinist Joshua Bell appears with percussionist Douglas Marriner performing a new commission, Vince Mendoza’s Flight of Moving Days, marking the centenary of Sir Neville Marriner, Founder of Academy of St Martin in the Fields.

The program will also consist of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64 and Schumann’s Symphony No. 2 in C Major, Op. 61. A pre-concert lecture by Classical California KUSC’s Brian Lauritzen will be held at 7PM.

Classical music superstar Joshua Bell is one of the most celebrated musicians of our time. “A charismatic performer with an effortless technique and sweet tone” (The New York Times), Bell has a career spanning over thirty years as a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist, conductor and director, along with countless honors, such as a Grammy Award, the Avery Fisher Prize and Echo Klassik awards, as well as being recognized as Musical America’s 2010 Musician of the Year.

Led by Joshua Bell, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields is one of the world’s finest chamber orchestras, renowned for fresh, brilliant interpretations of the world’s greatest orchestral music. The group has been featured in concert halls across the world, and has been featured in numerous recordings, including the soundtrack to the Oscar-winning film Amadeus.

6:30PM – doors/concessions available
7:00PM – pre-concert lecture by Classical California KUSC’s Brian Lauritzen
8:00PM – performance

Parking is free and a courtesy shuttle operates an hour and a half prior to the performance and following the performance.
