The Anaheim Family YMCA is gearing up for their most critical fundraising effort in recent history, the 2022 YMCA “WE BUILD PEOPLE” Annual Support Campaign. With a goal of raising $500,000 within an intense eight (8) week stretch of this fall – October 27 through December 13 – the YMCA Board of Directors turned to one of its brightest young stars to lead this monumentally important effort.

Emily Grant, Senior Public Affairs Manager for Southern California Gas Company, has been a member of the Anaheim Family YMCA Board of Directors for only 4 years. Despite her brief Y-Board tenure, both the Y Board and Staff Leadership are extremely confident in Emily’s ability to raise the newly branded YMCA “We Build People” Campaign (formerly “Kids Now”) to new heights.

“Southern California Gas Company supports a great many causes in our covered communities, and I’m involved in other charitable work that pretty much has my volunteer time spoken for over the remainder of this year,” said Grant. “But my YMCA commitment is particularly strong and special, because of my son’s involvement in Y programs. Plus our new “We Build People” YMCA Campaign theme really compelled me to carve out space and lead this effort.”

The effort of which Grant spoke is the YMCA Annual $upport Campaign, which seeks to engage 16 Teams of five (5) community volunteers each in door-to-door, ZOOM, FaceTime, phone bank, and other methods canvassing neighborhoods, family, friends, co-workers, chamber associates, etc. in a six week drive asking for donations to support the YMCA.

“We expect that our YMCA Campaign volunteers will come from all walks of community life. Business, Education, local service clubs like Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary and local Women’s Clubs, as well as parents of YMCA youth program participants past and present”, said Brent Finlay, YMCA President & CEO. “All funds raised in the Campaign go into our YMCA Financial Assistance Fund, which subsidizes persons who cannot afford even the nominal fees our Y charges for program participation,” he added.

The combination of pressing community needs, and the national YMCA financial assistance promise, which states that “No one is turned away due to the inability to pay”, are what inspired Grant, Finlay, and the YMCA Board to introduce the new “We Build People” theme. The Anaheim Family YMCA “We Build People” Campaign begins with a Kickoff Dinner on Tuesday, October 27, 2022.
