National Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 9-15, and for this year, the City of Lakewood and the American Red Cross are hosting Sound the Alarm for Lakewood residents.
Sound the Alarm is a fire-prevention initiative that provides residential smoke detectors and in-home installation for free.
Smoke detectors are encouraged in each room of the home.
If you do not have working smoke detectors, or you need more in your home, sign up at www.redcross.org/LAHomeFire. You will be contacted to set up an appointment on Saturday, Oct. 15 to have the smoke detectors installed in your home at no charge.
The American Red Cross and City of Lakewood are also looking for volunteers to work Sound the Alarm on Oct. 15 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. No experience or tools are necessary, however volunteers must be over the age of 14. If you’re interested, call the Red Cross at 310-445-9914.
For additional information or questions, please contact Lakewood’s Public Safety Department at 562- 866-9771, ext. 2114.
