Recently, actor Adam Scott was driving down Melrose Avenue and spotted a massive mural dedicated to his hit series “Severance.”
“It’s actually every character that’s ever appeared on the show there and it’s really surreal to see it, because it’s actually on the show, but this is like, five times as big,” he exclaimed to Scott “Movie” Mantz on the KTLA 5 Morning News.
The mural is inspired by the Season 2 finale “Cold Harbor,” which is a great sign seeing as the show’s first season was a hit.
Scott admits he did feel pressure to deliver on the second season, as fans had to wait three years for its return. The delay was due to the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes and, what Scott calls, “a very meticulously made show.”
“So all of that added up. It ended up being three years, and we were just worried about getting those Season 1 viewers back, to remind them that the show was coming back,” he explained. “Then the show actually expanding and growing its audience was not something we even considered happening. So it’s all just been just a lot of luck and good fortune.”
Scott serves as an actor and executive producer on the Apple TV+ series, alongside Ben Stiller, who’s the show’s director. While he said the show’s creator, Dan Erickson, and Stiller “call the shots” on the set, he leans into being “more helpful” by picking up any so-called “slack.”
However, the actor wouldn’t have it any other way as he just enjoys his job.
“I love the show so much, and love the world that these guys have created, and have been immersed in it now for over five years,” he gushed. “Those guys have been in it for like seven years. So it’s all we’ve been working on for a while now. So I feel like we all know the world really well and just love, like, when we’re not shooting the show or promoting the show, chances are we’re all talking about the show and figuring out the puzzle for you know the following season.”
That passion and hard work have paid off. “Severance” earned 27 nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards.
However, when the nods were announced Scott didn’t watch.
“I’m superstitious,” he revealed. “But, when I got the text that it was 27, none of us could believe it. It was outrageous, but also gratifying, because the crew is made up entirely of people who are the very best at what they do. So to see so many of them recognized, and also, Britt (Lower), Tramell (Tillman), Zach (Cherry), Gwendoline (Christie), so many people in the cast recognized as well, was incredible.”
As fans look forward to Season 3, they won’t have Stiller in the director’s chair because he’ll be working on a World War II survival movie. Since that leaves a vacant space, the “Parks and Recreation” alum doesn’t plan on filling it.
“Working on the show as an actor has been all-encompassing now for several years, and when we’re in, when we’re on, on location, making the show, it takes up all of my time already,” he explained. “So I almost feel like directing would be too much. I’m already completely immersed.”
“So I feel like you’re trying to add more work, trying to kill me,” he joked with Scott.
The 77th Emmy Awards take place on Sept. 14 at 5:00 p.m. at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. It will be broadcast on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
“Severance” is currently on Apple TV+.
