(Santa Ana, CA) – Senator Thomas J. Umberg (D-Santa Ana), a retired Colonel in the United States Army, announced that his 2024 Veteran’s Day Flag Recognition Program has opened.
On Veterans Day we honor the men and women who fought for our freedom and protected our democracy. One way to recognize and honor those who served in uniform on Veterans Day is to fly the American flag outside your homes or hanging in your windows. It shows families that the sacrifices of their loved ones are not forgotten.
For the past three years, Senator Umberg has solicited information about those flying the flag via social media and email.
“If people fly the flag on Veteran’s Day, as veterans ourselves, my wife (a retired Brigadier General with the U.S. Army) and I would like to send a thank you note,” said Senator Umberg. “Many do so to honor a family member in particular, and I would love the opportunity to recognize the sacrifice of those individuals and give life to those stories.”
For those who would like to tell their family’s journey, Senator Umberg is requesting the following information:
- WHO: Your name or family’s names
- HONOREE: Name of person or people the flag is being flown in honor of
- INFORMATION: If the branch and rank of those being remembered is known or if stories have
- been passed down about military pursuits, please tell us!
- PICTURES: Pictures of your flag flying are welcomed!
