Senator Dave Min released a statement emphasizing that the City of Huntington Beach must comply with the Builder’s Remedy and California’s housing requirements under the Housing Accountability Act. This follows a letter from Attorney General Rob Bonta and a second notice from the Department of Housing and Community Development.
“No city is above state law and the City of Huntington Beach is no exception. Full stop,” Min said. “If the Mayor and City Council majority have concerns about the Builder’s Remedy or the State’s housing requirements under the Housing Accountability Act, they should reach out to me and my office, or the offices of Assemblywoman Diane Dixon or Senator Janet Nguyen, who also have the privilege of representing Huntington Beach. That is how representative democracy works.”
“The Council majority’s current course of action in trying to defy the rule of law and rebel against the authority of the State Legislature, is reckless, counterproductive, and a waste of taxpayer dollars,” Min continued. “Political theater of this kind neglects the real issue at hand: America’s housing crisis. It’s time we work together to meet this moment with real solutions that enhance quality of life for everyone.”
