Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) issued the following statement in response to the mass shooting at Geneva Presbyterian Church in Laguna Woods that left five people injured and one dead.

“I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to the victims, their families, and the entire Laguna Woods community. Home to a close-knit community mostly of retirees, it is almost unthinkable that one of the safest places in the country would be hit by the specter of gun violence. At the same time, preliminary reports from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department indicate that individuals risked their own lives to apprehend the gunman and I have no doubt that these acts of heroism saved lives.”

We should refuse to accept these tragedies as the new normal in our schools, our houses of worship, or anywhere. Since being elected, I have worked to find solutions that improve public safety and reduce these types of crimes in our communities.

On Tuesday, I will be participating in a town hall in partnership with the Brady Campaign to discuss how we can enact common sense legislation that will put a stop to the havoc that continues to wreak on our communities, here in Orange County, in California and in the United States.”
