The curtain at South Coast Repertory was raised this year to a reimagined annual gala—dubbed Peek!—that gave its 156 guests a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into producing the plays that have entertained theater buffs and helped new generations of playwrights launch their careers for the last 61 years. Gala-goers were escorted through the back halls where wigs are created, costumes are sewn, and sets are constructed, then treated to a dressing room performance by “Million Dollar Quartet” actors portraying Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, or Carl Perkins. Afterward, dinner was served from five gourmet food stations followed by a cabaret performance on the Julianne Argyros stage and an afterparty in the Nicholas Studio.

“We are so grateful to our gala chairs Harmon and Lea Kong for leading our reimagined gala,” SCR Managing Director Suzanne Appel said. “It was extraordinary—our patrons learned about our work directly from our artisans and technicians, got an up-close immersive experience with our artists, and then were moved to raise their paddles in support of South Coast Repertory.”
