Scene and Seen: City of Hope Orange County’s Bell Ringing Ceremony

Some 600 doctors, nurses, patients, and community leaders gathered for a ceremonial bell ringing and reception to mark the completion of Orange County’s only cancer specialty hospital. More than half of those in attendance were cancer survivors. They walked the length of a blue carpet, with the hospital’s physicians and staff— including City of Hope Orange County President Annette Walker and Physician-in-Chief Ed Kim—cheering them all along the way. And their simultaneous bell ringing stirred the emotions of many. An estimated one in three people in the United States battles cancer. And City of Hope’s pioneering therapies and novel treatments aim to ensure cancer patients see remission and enjoy a long, healthy life.
