Boys and girls basketball players from the six Santa Ana Unified School District high schools will compete in the 2022 Santa Ana Prep Classic on Friday, March 25 at Godinez High School.
The games will be presented by the RAYA Foundation, according to the foundation’s president Leon Raya.
The players were nominated by their coaches. There will be a 3-point shooting contest prior to the girls game.
The 3-point contest begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the girls game at 6:30 pm and the boys game at 8 p.m.
The first event was scheduled in March of 2020, but was cancellled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“This has been a dream of our foundation,” said Raya. “We were ready in 2020, with the first practices done and tickets being sold. Then everything shut down and we had to cancel. But we knew we’d be back. We’re excited to provide the student athletes in the district an event where they can be celebrated and recognized for their hard work and dedication.”
The girls teams will be coached by Tony Jarjoura of Santa Ana and AJ Alaman of Godinez.
The boys teams will be coached by Fareed ElMasry of Santa Ana and Brandon Rogers of Segerstrom. Teams will be divided into away and home teams.
More information is available by going to: rayafoundation.org and tickets can be purchased in advance for $5 or at the door the night of the games for $8.
