The Television Academy plans to honor our dear Sam Rubin in a major way.

Cris Abrego, the Chairman of the Television Academy, made a special announcement exclusively on the KTLA 5 Morning News on Tuesday. He revealed that Sam would posthumously receive the 76th Los Angeles Area Emmy Governors Award, recognizing his legacy of more than three decades of entertainment news reporting for KTLA.

The Los Angeles Governors Award committee selects the award’s recipient, and Abrego revealed to Dayna Devon that the vote for Sam was unanimous.

“Sam was a trailblazer, a pioneer in the modern age of television news. His contributions to entertainment journalism in Los Angeles and around the world are unmatched,” said Abrego. “We are honored to recognize him for his influence and impact to our television community.”

Sam is also up for an Emmy himself at this year’s awards ceremony. He’s nominated for Best Entertainment News Story for his coverage of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Sam’s nomination is one of 10 nominations KTLA 5 received for the ceremony.

The Los Angeles area Emmys will take place on July 27 at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire.
