The director of one of the most successful films of the year is set to be honored in Los Angeles.
“Sinners” director Ryan Coogler is set to be honored by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Art + Film gala in November. American artist Mary Corse will also be honored.
“Mary Corse has continually expanded the possibilities of painting in her exquisite works, which invite us to think deeply about the nature of perception,” said LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director, Michael Govan. “Ryan Coogler’s films do something equally transformative. Through masterful storytelling and visual innovation, he reframes history, redefines narratives, and opens new worlds of possibility. Both artists challenge us to see differently, whether through a shift in light or a shift in narrative, and that is at the heart of what the museums aspire to do.”
Actor Leonardo DiCaprio and LACMA trustee Eva Chow will return as the 2025 gala’s co-chairs. Gucci serves as the event’s presenting sponsor.
“This year’s gala will be a truly special one as we honor the incredible L.A. artist Mary Corse and trailblazing filmmaker Ryan Coogler,” said Chow. “This event wouldn’t be possible without the collaboration of Gucci, our partner since the first Art+Film Gala. We are grateful for their continued generosity to the museum, and we’re especially excited to welcome Gucci’s new Artistic Director, Demna, to LACMA and the creative community in Los Angeles.”
LACMA will host its 14th Art + Film Gala will take place on Nov. 1, “against the backdrop of LACMA’s nearly completed David Geffen Galleries, the new building designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Peter Zumthor and scheduled to open to the public in April 2026.”
Proceeds support LACMA’s initiative to make film a more central part of the museum’s curatorial programming, which includes exhibitions, acquisitions, and educational programs that explore the intersection of art and film.
