Rasta Taco begins serving breakfast with a wide range of fresh and hearty options to complement its Mexican-Jamaican fusion fare.

Known for its flavorful burritos and tacos, with fillings like Jamaican jerk chicken and Caribbean carne asada, Rasta Taco recently added breakfast to its lineup. And, while there is a breakfast burrito on the menu, the morning meal options go far beyond the expected.

Perfect for a pre-beach bite or a leisurely brunch with friends, breakfast can be enjoyed on the patio from 8 to 11 a.m. every day. The cheery, umbrella-covered space features a bright yellow mural, potted succulents and other pops of color. Choose from tables and chairs or additional seats at a long, outdoor counter.

When it comes to ordering, the toughest decision is whether to go sweet or savory—or choose both and share with the table. The stack of three fluffy pancakes and the two thick slices of French toast sprinkled with powdered sugar both entice with maple syrup and fresh strawberries on top.

The homemade apple cinnamon oatmeal is another ideal selection, especially on a cool, overcast morning. Warm and comforting, it’s also hearty and filling. The oats are cooked without dairy, making this a great option for those avoiding lactose in their diets. Topping the mixture are chopped green apples that have been sauteed in butter until soft, with brown sugar added in for a touch of sweetness.

For a light meal, the avocado toast comes with smashed avocado, chopped onion and radish slices on buttered sourdough. Two eggs or smoked salmon may be added for extra protein. A side of mixed greens with a sweet-and-tangy dressing is a welcome side.

When craving a larger salad, go for the Protein Plate, which packs a punch with mixed greens, two hard boiled eggs (each cut in half), thick slices of creamy avocado and pink swirls of delicate but flavorful smoked salmon.

Those with an even bigger appetite might opt for the Laguna Sunrise plate, which comes with two fried eggs, house potatoes that are fried with oil and herbs, and pork or turkey sausage, plus a choice of wheat or sourdough toast. The Rasta Omelet, on the other hand, brings together cheese and bacon, brightened up with chopped tomato on top and mixed greens on the side, plus toast. And, of course, the breakfast burrito is a solid option, especially for those on the go. It combines eggs, potatoes, cheese, onion and cilantro (with the option to add bacon, chorizo or both), all wrapped up in a warm tortilla.

The wide offering of fresh and tasty dishes is impressive, especially given the extremely small size of the kitchen, nestled next to the gorjana jewelry store on Beach Street. With the addition of breakfast, this Laguna eatery continues its commitment to one love in every bite—now, even in the morning—so locals can enjoy a taste of Rasta Taco all day long.
