Last week, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) joined Rep. John Duarte (CA-13), Speaker Kevin McCarthy (CA-20) and members of the California Republican delegation to urge Governor Gavin Newsom to reverse his anti-energy policies that are leading to rising natural gas prices and eventually, hikes in utility costs and gas prices for families.
The members sent a letter in response to Gov. Newsom’s letter to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in which he demanded an investigation into the California natural gas price increases and whether “market manipulation, anticompetitive behavior, or other anomalous activities are driving these ongoing prices.”
“California’s natural gas price hikes are a direct result of Sacramento’s failed policies that have depleted our energy supply. This is why we have the highest energy costs in the nation,” said Congresswoman Kim. “Californians can see through Gov. Newsom’s blame game. Our state deserves responsible policies that make life affordable and easier. I thank Rep. Duarte for leading this letter to demand change, and I will keep fighting for common sense.”
“Governor Newsom’s letter to FERC proves that he truly does not understand good energy policy,” said Congressman Duarte. “His administration had several chances to change state policy on natural gas purchases and imports into the State of California and to expand opportunities for in-state production. Despite this, he chooses to turn to finger-pointing and asking the Federal Government to cover for his mistakes.”
