As first reported by Fox News, U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-39) and House Committee on Homeland Security Ranking Member John Katko (NY-24) led a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas to demand the immediate use of border security equipment in the federal government’s possession that have already been procured and are currently stored by the federal government at huge expense to American taxpayers.
April 2022 was the 14th straight month of over 150,000 migrant encounters at the Southern border, including over 234,000 migrant encounters in April alone. If Title 42 is rescinded, Department of Homeland Security experts are predicting up to 18,000 daily encounters – more than double the current average – when the policy officially ends. This projected increase would continue to burden already overwhelmed CBP personnel who would benefit from the use of already procured technologies in storage.
Rep. Kim has visited our Southern border in California and in Texas three times and introduced a bill to create a mile-by-mile border security strategy earlier this year.
Reps. Kim and Katko were joined in sending the letter by Reps. Andrew Garbarino (NY-02), Dan Meuser (PA-09), Jeff Van Drew (NJ-02) and Rodney Davis (IL-13).
