Candidate Statement
Diana and I moved to Los Alamitos in 1992 with two sons nearing school age. Our goal was a great school district in a safe community. We found that and much more. Upon meeting a neighbor, I found myself on the Board of Los Alamitos Youth Baseball for 11 years and I have served this community ever since.
I currently serve as a Traffic Commissioner, Rotarian, St. Isidore Board Member and LAEF Board Emeritus after serving on that board for 9 years. These connect me with an amazing and diverse group and I am honored to work with them.
As a real estate broker and resident of the Highlands, I host an annual Easter Egg Hunt, provide an ice cream truck for each new school year, place flags at every home for July 4th, and help co-sponsor Concerts in the Park.
Diana and I were honored to be Heroes of the Heart for our school district in 2009 and Los Alamitos Museum’s 2012 Citizens of the Year.
I am running for City Council because I believe I can bring my diverse local experience to foster relationships and give back to the community that means so much to our family.
Platform
As your newly elected council member, I will continue the city’s focus on the budget to address community improvements and pension’s long-term impact on our city. There is a plan in place to pay off unfunded pensions, thanks to the support of voters for the increased sales tax. Keeping the focus on the proper management of those additional funds will remain a focus on our long-term financial health.
Public safety is key with a fully staffed police force. We are finally fully staffed with 25 officers, a canine unit, a school resource officer, and a motorcycle officer. I will support a fully staffed police department moving forward.
We will also continue our capital improvements projects providing quality infrastructure, including good roads and parks for the citizens of our city.
I will also fight for local control so we can address the needs of our constituents. We need to get Sacramento to understand that unfunded mandates create an unnecessary burden on our city. State-mandated housing requires us to create almost 800 new homes in our city. That will need to be handled carefully with the cooperation of our neighboring communities.
I strongly support our current city manager and staff, engaged residents, and cherished small-town feel. Together, we get things done!
Who am I?
I am a devoted husband, father of two terrific sons, and grandfather of four who values family greatly.
Over the years, I have served my community in many ways and I look forward to continuing that tradition.
I am a local real estate broker who has lived in Rossmoor Highlands since 1992.
I enjoy several sports, including tennis, softball, snow skiing, and golf.
I love to be funny, at least in my own mind.
Travel is very important to Diana and me. We have been very fortunate to see some amazing places and we look forward to seeing many more. There is so much to see and each destination expands our worldview.
