The community is invited to SITE TO SITE: EXPERIENCE THE RANCHO WITH NANNETTE BRODIE DANCE THEATRE on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2. The performance begins at 5 pm in the historic gardens of Rancho Los Alamitos in Long Beach. Tickets are on sale through the Rancho’s website at https://www.rancholosalamitos.org/events.html.
Artistic Director, Nannette Brodie, collaborated with Rancho staff to create this unique, site-specific performance featuring Nannette Brodie Dance Theatre (NBDT) dancers and guest artists. The show will reflect the site’s history, share intimate stories, and allow the audience to experience the Rancho through the eyes of an artist. During the performance, the audience will move “site to site” in the gardens and barnyard, led by actor Bill Kalmenson performing narration by Christine Jordan.
Each site will recall a chapter in the site’s history. At the first site, “The Springs,” Tongva educator and artist Lazaro Arvizu will share original music to accompany the NBDT performers. At the second site, “The Fiesta,” dancers from Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet and Academy will recall the music and dance of early California. At “The Match,” NBDT dancers will share upbeat and romantic dances from the 1920s into the 1950s. And for the final site, “The Picnic,” the audience will be greeted by the live music of the TED Bluegrass Band and experience the NBDT’s signature comedy dance entitled “Auction.” Accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of an auctioneer’s voice, NBDT dancers portray farm animals in a rollicking dance.
Tickets for adults are $50 and for children 12 and under, $25. There are discounts for Rancho Los Alamitos members. Tickets are sold in advance through the Rancho Los Alamitos website. We recommend casual clothes and walking shoes for this performance.
